On celebrations held in South Africa in observance of the Victory Day

 

On 6 May celebrations commemorating the forthcoming Victory Day were held in Johannesburg, involving Russian compatriots, Ambassadors and officials of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Serbia. The key role belonged to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War residing in South Africa – Valentin Arinin and Tsipra Maiburd.

Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of South Africa Andrey Litvinov has delivered the greetings of Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of South Africa Mikhail Petrakov. Veterans received gifts and flowers. As part of a gala concert, the pupils of the school at the Embassy performed the songs and recited poems of the war years. The students of the Russian Ballet Academy of South Africa performed several ballet turns describing the key events of the War through dance.

For the third time in a row, the Immortal Regiment action took place in South Africa. Over 150 people went a ceremonial march with portraits of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.

The veterans spoke about their long life journeys, shared memories of the war and participated in the Immortal Regiment march. Valentin Arinin joined the cultural programme and broke into a dance with his wife to the Soviet-era songs.
